163 Voices: Women in Tech Speak Up

This is old news. We’ve got new research for 2021.

SEE THE NEW DATA

Today—on International Women’s Day 2019—we are launching 163 Voices: Women in Tech Speak Up. It is a report that tells the individual experiences of 163 women in the tech industry, spanning roles and generations. It is a report that we hope will play one small part in improving workplace dynamics.

TrustRadius has always aimed to change the tech industry. Our mission is to bring transparency to the world of buying and selling business technology. For both buyers and sellers, we aim to let the truth speak for itself, in the words of the professionals who use the technology day in and day out.

This report holds a different kind of truth. It promotes a different kind of transparency.

There are plenty of broad quantitative research studies investigating the state of women in tech—providing evidence of discrimination such as wage gaps, lack of VC-funding, and accelerated quit rates for women in the industry. Those studies are extremely important in inciting change.

So why read this report? Who cares about 163 voices, in an industry that represents more than a million jobs?

This report is not about stats. Humans connect through stories, not numbers. So this report contains vignettes from smart, capable, brave women in tech, discussing:

  • Why they joined tech
  • Something they’re proud of
  • Powerful stories of discrimination
  • Strategies for addressing bias
  • Strategies for assessing company culture
  • Who inspires them

These stories are individual ones, but they are not unique. They resonate. They will move you. They will spark conversations. They will change the way you see the women you work with every day.

Thank you to all the women who have taken our survey so far—they shared their stories, they invited their coworkers to participate, and they helped us donate $5,000 to Girls in Tech as part of the project.
