IntelliJ IDEA

IntelliJ IDEA TRScore | trustradius.com

IntelliJ IDEA is an IDE for Java applications which includes features such as static code analysis, smart code completion, version control, code refactoring, and other conveniences. This software also features inline debugging and test runners for popular testing frameworks. It also supports language injection and cross-language refactoring, and performs automated code fragment duplication detection, and live quick fixes. On TrustRadius, IntelliJ IDEA users come from companies of all sizes. Users describe IntelliJ IDEA as an excellent IDE for Java development that merits its cost with superior debugging and smart code hinting and completion, and easy-to-use code refactoring.

IntelliJ IDEA is used by developers in our organization as the standard IDE to develop code. It drastically reduces time to develop effective code and being an enterprise licensed product , it offers enterprise features which are not present in other IDES…  It performs better than [competitors] in code refactoring, code completion and debugging (the features of an IDE)… IntelliJ IDEA is well suited for someone involved in enterprise Java development.”

Visual Studio IDE TRScore | trustradius.com

Visual Studio is Microsoft’s IDE for Azure development which supports a wide variety of coding languages via VSPackages, and features code debugging, IntelliSense code completion, and other convenience tools. Visual Studio also features plenty of editing shortcuts and refactoring, and is extendable through a marketplace of plugins. With Visual Studio CodeLens developers can locate change in code and the impact of those changes. Visual Studio is the most frequently reviewed IDE on TrustRadius and is used by developers at companies of all sizes. Recent reviewers say Visual Studio is the gold standard IDE for building in C#, with supreme IntelliSense code editing and powerful debugging.

“For the features and cost there was no equal to Visual Studio. Many of the other IDE did have some better or worse features than Visual Studio but in total nothing was even close to what we could achieve with Visual Studio. In addition Visual Studio makes it very easy for a new developer to on board and start contributing… When it comes to developing custom applications there is no better platform than Visual Studio. We use it to develop web sites, web services, console applications, integrations and much more. The speed and flexibility that it affords us is unparalleled.”

They also favor Eclipse for its third-party integrations and large, supportive community of users.

“We use Eclipse for all Java project development in the department. Most of the times when dealing with some complex problems which can only be solved using Java logic, we have to rely on Java development and use an IDE. The third party integrator and connectors help a lot to make the finest and crafted end product.”

Congratulations to the winners of the Top Rated Integrated Development Environment (IDE) Software Award!

What is Integrated Development Environment (IDE) Software?

An IDE provides more advanced features and a more advanced coding interface than what is typically provided in a code editor. Some additional capabilities found in IDEs are debugging, version control, and other conveniences like code completion or build automation

Beyond these features, IDE software provides developers with extra features to speed and perfect building with code. For instance, advanced IDEs provide an editor to clean or complete code as you write, and code refactoring to increase code efficiency while retaining its basic behavior. An IDE likely includes many templates to help developers get started with jobs of various kinds.

While many IDEs are (or were originally) built with a certain programming language in mind, most can be used to build in other coding languages via plugins. These tools generally have a library of plugins and tools to customize their functionality. Established and popular IDEs are available free and open source, though proprietary IDEs may be favored for providing cleaner and more efficient development, at speed.
