Announcing the Top Rated Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) Solutions for 2019

August 28th, 2019 5 min read

We are excited to announce the Top Rated Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) Solutions for 2019! Top Rated awards showcase today’s top-of-the-line product in Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) Solutions based solely on positive user feedback and satisfaction scores. These awards make the voice of the market the primary decider into the industry’s best products.

Top Rated awards are the most trusted in the industry because they are never influenced by analyst opinion, the vendor’s size, popularity, or status as a TrustRadius customer. So without further ado…

Here are the winners:

AWS Lambda

AWS Lambda is a serverless compute service for firing event-based scripts, delivered on a lean pay-for-what-you-use basis. Sometimes described as a Function-as-a-Service (FaaS), Lambda allows the user to run code for applications and services without administration. The obvious benefit is that enterprises may gain scalable computing resources without provisioning and managing servers. On TrustRadius, AWS Lambda is reviewed by users at companies of all sizes. Reviewers appreciate its easy integration with related AWS services, its fair and affordable pay-per-use model with accurate sub-second metering, as well as its high availability and “endless” scale.

“AWS Lambda is used by the programming department and allows to coordinate applications, without a server, in a very fast, simple, and economic way. It is perfect for scalable projects, where small functions are executed and it is not necessary to have a complete layer behind the application or the website. It also helps with continuous integration, since you can add functions independently and it is easy to automate functions…  Lambda is ideal for the development of apps and serverless webapps, which are fragmented into small functions independently. It is also very useful for companies that look for an economic solution for their developments, and do not have an estimated number of users.”

Microsoft Azure

Azure is Microsoft’s infrastructural and services-oriented cloud platform, affording users with Microsoft managed datacenters, manifold cloud apps and microservice development tools. Beyond infrastructural services, a sample of Azure’s PaaS services include data management and the Azure SQL Database DBaaS, workflow automation and integration-as-a-service with Azure Logic Apps, media streaming with Azure CDN, and messaging (e.g. Azure Service Bus). On TrustRadius, Azure is the most-reviewed PaaS, and is used by companies of all sizes. Reviewers praise Azure as a platform for integrating Microsoft services such as Active Directory or Office, and describe Azure’s vast library of available apps as well documented and easy to use.

“Their PaaS functionality, including AzureAD, RMS, web services, OMS, etc. can be seen as game changers for those rolling up applications and/or companies that need to expand their footprint. Azure makes rolling out PaaS services very cheap.”

Salesforce Platform (formerly Salesforce App Cloud)

Salesforce Platform (previously know as Salesforce App Cloud) is the company’s app building PaaS that allows developers to create apps taking advantage of data residing in Salesforce CRM. Primarily these will provide insight into sales and service operations with ad hoc reports, dashboards, or other apps to allow managers to understand sales processes and performance. The biggest segment of Salesforce Platform reviewers on TrustRadius are from mid-sized companies (45%). Reviewers love the ability to customize their Salesforce instance by rolling out new apps on an easy to use platform.

“Salesforce App Cloud provides a very easy way for you to install apps as well as deploy your own apps. You are, however, limited to the Salesforce marketplace and the requirements that they have for apps to be published in their marketplace. Even so, it’s still fairly easy to get something or make something that meets your business needs.

Congratulations to the winners of the Top Rated PaaS Solutions Award!

What are Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions?

A PaaS is a development and deployment environment in the cloud that makes coding and deploying applications much more efficient for developers and IT professionals. It is essentially a platform for building scalable software delivered over the web with modest up-front investment. The emergence of PaaS has released application developers from much of the complexity of provisioning, configuring, and managing and updating hardware resources by providing them with the operational components underlying application development, such as operating systems, databases, container orchestration, middleware and BI as cloud-enabled services.

Functions-as-a-Service (FaaS) is a relatively new technology that has grown out of PaaS. Like PaaS, FaaS is a cloud computing model that abstracts server management and low level infrastructure decisions away from developers, but it goes further than PaaS. All allocation of resources is managed by the platform allowing applications to be developed without any thought of implementation, load balancing, or scaling.
