goto-rescue-vs-teamviewer

July 7th, 2020 3 min read

LogMeIn Rescue and TeamViewer are both remote access tools. They both provide various levels of mobile remote access as well as other extended features. LogMeIn and TeamViewer are both used across company sizes.

LogMeIn and TeamViewer vary in their target use cases. LogMeIn can be used to remotely support internal company or external customer users. TeamViewer is less commonly used for external support, and instead offers more robust features for IoT control, patch management, and video collaboration.

Features

LogMeIn Rescue and TeamViewer each have robust features tailored to their respective use cases.

LogMeIn emphasizes its utility for internal and external remote support alike. Towards this end, it offers a wide range of access and agent installation methods. This allows support personnel to tailor their access method to the device being accessed and the technical abilities of the end-user in question. LogMeIn also enables more brand customization and white labeling. This capability is crucial for instilling trust and ease of mind when remotely accessing customers’ devices.

TeamViewer differentiates by supporting a wider range of use cases. In particular, the tool can be used to remotely access Internet of Things (IoT) devices, remotely install updates and patches, and lets end-users self-serve to remotely access their own devices when their devices are physically accessible.

Limitations

LogMeIn Rescue and TeamViewer also have some limitations and drawbacks worth considering.

LogMeIn is tailored to a more narrow set of use cases than TeamViewer. For instance, LogMeIn does not advertise support for IoT devices, and may not be ideal for routine update or patch management. Reviewers have also reported less-than-ideal user experiences as administrators.

TeamViewer’s pricing model has been frequently criticized by reviewers. In particular, there are required upgrade costs in order to adopt new versions of the software. TeamViewer also doesn’t offer the same level of branding customization as LogMeIn, and is less reliable under weaker internet conditions.

Pricing

LogMeIn Rescue is priced at $108.25/month/license, with $37.50/month/license for mobile support as an add-on.

TeamViewer offers 4 pricing plans. The Single User Business License, at $49/month, allows one user to initiate one device connection session at a time, caps managed devices at 200, and enables cross-platform access. The Multi-User Premium License, at $99/month, allows for up to 50 licensed users, 300 managed devices, customized device information and user access reporting, and multiple sessions. The Corporate License for teams, at $199/month, allows for up to 200 licensed users, 500 managed devices, 3 simultaneous sessions with the paid add-on option for more, and more advanced reporting options.
